MANCHESTER, England — Alejandro Garnacho has promised to treat his Manchester United teammates to a dinner following his reaction after being substituted during the match against Ipswich on Wednesday. The incident took place when Garnacho walked directly to the locker room after being replaced by Noussair Mazraoui shortly before halftime. This switch was necessitated due to a red card shown to Patrick Dorgu, which required Manchester United’s coach, Ruben Amorim, to reshuffle his lineup.
Typically, players are expected to join their teammates on the bench after being substituted unless they are injured. Following United’s 3-2 victory, Coach Amorim mentioned he would discuss the Argentinian forward’s actions with him. Reflecting on the matter, Amorim recounted, “It was amusing because the next day he came to my office. Upon investigating, I found he headed to the dressing room to change his clothes since they were wet. He then watched the game from a different location, not the bench. He rejoined after the game and went home, so there are no major issues.”
Amorim emphasized the importance of conduct at a prestigious club like Manchester United, where perception is crucial. As a light-hearted consequence, Garnacho will sponsor a team dinner. “In Manchester United, everything is significant, and the image in a big club is paramount, so he will pay for a team dinner, and that’s settled,” Amorim explained.
Previously, Garnacho was omitted from the squad for a match against Manchester City in December, a move that Amorim insisted was necessary to uphold high standards at the club. “He’s a young kid who will learn from these experiences,” Amorim stated, adding that their conversation the following morning was an encouraging sign.
Looking ahead, Garnacho is anticipated to be available for selection when Manchester United takes on Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday.
