MILAN — At 90, Giorgio Armani proves he still has a few tricks up his sleeve. During Milan Fashion Week, his Emporio Armani collection showcased on Thursday incorporated a playful theme centered around playing cards.
In this collection, sequined playing cards made their appearance tucked into bodices, conveniently slipped into belts, or peeking from jacket pockets. Fashion elements included heart-shaped tops under jackets, diamond-shaped belt buckles, and costume jewelry mimicking clubs and spades. A standout piece for daring fashionistas was an overcoat adorned with all the card suits.
The collection played cleverly with the concept of menswear for women. It demonstrated this through three-piece suits and velvet outfits, complete with matching ties or large neck bows. The trousers were tailored for comfort, displaying looseness accompanied by deep pockets. Adding a magical touch, some shirt collars and cuffs appeared to float, unattached.
After the show, the iconic designer made his usual appearance for a post-show bow. He was joined by his niece, Silvana Armani, who heads the womenswear design studio, signaling a clear line of succession for the fashion house.
