SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — In an impressive display, UC Santa Barbara triumphed over Cal Poly with a final score of 96-77 in their matchup on Thursday.
Jason Fontenet II played a pivotal role for the Gauchos, contributing 19 points, in addition to securing five rebounds and four steals. This victory brings their record to 19-10 overall and 11-7 within the Big West Conference.
Another notable performer for UC Santa Barbara was Cole Anderson, who made an impact by shooting 6 of 9, which included an impressive 4 of 6 from three-point territory, and scoring 16 points. Additionally, Deuce Turner added to the offensive effort by netting 14 points, going 4 of 11 from the field, 2 of 5 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4 of 4 from the charity stripe.
On the opposing side, the Cal Poly Mustangs, now 11-18 overall with a 5-12 conference record, were led by Owen Koonce, who delivered a strong performance with 23 points and three steals. Jarred Hyder supported his team with 17 points and two steals, while Peter Bandelj contributed 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Looking ahead, both teams will take to the court again on Saturday. UC Santa Barbara will travel to face Cal State Northridge, and Cal Poly is set to host Cal State Bakersfield.
