ST. GEORGE, Utah — In an intense match-up, Southern Utah triumphed over Utah Tech with a score of 82-75 on Thursday night, led by a stellar performance from Dominique Ford who racked up 29 points.
Ford showed precision by shooting 9 out of 16 from the field, successfully making 3 of 6 attempts from beyond the arc, and demonstrating his skill with an 8 for 10 performance from the free-throw line. His contributions were integral for the Thunderbirds, who now hold a 12-16 record overall and 4-10 in the Western Athletic Conference. Jamir Simpson also provided substantial support by scoring 23 points; he too recorded 9 of 16 shooting, nailing 2 of 4 from three-point range, complemented by a perfect 3 for 3 from the line. Hercy Miller added to the scoring with 12 points, largely thanks to his flawless free-throw shooting, making all 9 attempts after struggling from the field with a 1 of 5 record.
On the other side, Noa Gonsalves spearheaded Utah Tech’s efforts by contributing 24 points to the scoreline. Beon Riley played a pivotal role adding 14 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and making two steals for the Trailblazers. Samuel Ariyibi also had a noticeable impact with 12 points and seven rebounds, but unfortunately, the team continued its losing streak, now totaling 11 consecutive defeats. Utah Tech’s record has slipped to 6-22 overall and 2-11 in the conference.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to hit the road again on Saturday. Southern Utah is set to face Utah Valley, while Utah Tech prepares to host Cal Baptist. The upcoming games offer both teams chances to turn their fortunes around as the season progresses.
