In Boca Raton, Fla., North Texas triumphed over Florida Atlantic on Thursday night with a notable performance from Brenen Lorient. Lorient’s solid contribution of 16 points from the bench played a crucial role in securing the 71-61 win.
Lorient further bolstered his performance by grabbing eight rebounds, providing five assists, and making three steals for the Mean Green, who now hold a record of 21-6 overall and 12-3 in the American Athletic Conference. Atin Wright also contributed to the team’s success by scoring 13 points, managing to hit 5 of his 11 attempts from the field, including one out of four from long range. Additionally, Rondel Walker made his mark by adding 10 points, converting four of his six field-goal attempts and two of three from beyond the arc.
Florida Atlantic, on the other hand, saw Leland Walker emerge as their top scorer with 19 points, although his efforts were not enough to turn the tide in favor of the Owls, who now stand at 15-13 overall and 8-7 in their conference. Walker also contributed five assists and two steals. Baba supported the Owls with 15 points, while Tre Carroll added eight points to their tally.
The Mean Green took control of the game approximately eight minutes into the first half and maintained their lead for the remainder of the contest. Lorient’s nine points in the first half played a significant role in giving North Texas a narrow 37-34 advantage at halftime. In the second half, a critical 8-0 run expanded their lead to 54-41, securing their dominance with 12:20 left on the clock. Lorient continued to shine, adding seven points in the second half.
With this victory, North Texas holds the second spot in the conference standings, trailing just one game behind No. 18 Memphis, with only three regular-season games left to play.
