LEXINGTON, Va. — In a thrilling matchup on Thursday night, Collin Holloway delivered an impressive performance, scoring 24 points to lead Samford to a 95-83 triumph over VMI. Holloway also contributed significantly to the Bulldogs’ (22-8, 12-5 Southern Conference) win with seven rebounds and three steals.
Adding to the offensive firepower, Riley Allenspach scored a career-high 22 points. He was efficient from the field, making 9 of his 16 attempts, though he was less successful from the line, converting 4 of 10 shots. Allenspach also pulled down eight rebounds, adding to the Bulldogs’ strong showing. Meanwhile, Trey Fort scored 17 points, landing 5 of 12 from the field, including an excellent 3 for 7 from beyond the arc, and remained perfect from the free-throw line with 4 of 4 attempts, while also securing three steals.
The Keydets (13-17, 7-10) were led by Tan Yildizoglu, who topped their score chart with 23 points. He was supported by Rickey Bradley, Jr., who contributed 16 points, and Augustinas Kiudulas, who chipped in 14 points. The Keydets fought valiantly but couldn’t match the Bulldogs’ offensive output.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to compete again on Saturday. Samford will travel to UNC Greensboro, while VMI is scheduled to host Chattanooga, as each team aims to secure critical wins to close out the season.
