In Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Wednesday evening, Isaac McKneely delivered an impressive performance with 27 points, leading Virginia to an 83-75 victory over Wake Forest. McKneely’s accuracy was on full display as he made 10 out of 14 shots, including a remarkable 4 for 7 from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers were resolute, continuously resisting Wake Forest’s attempts to overtake them.
Virginia received additional contributions from Dai Dai Ames, who netted 14 points, Andrew Rohde with 13, and Jacob Cofie providing an energetic boost off the bench with 12 points. Shooting an impressive 55.8% from the field, the Cavaliers reached their highest game score of the season. Meanwhile, Wake Forest’s Hunter Sallis amassed 25 points, Cameron Hildreth contributed 22, and Efton Reid III added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cavaliers initially held a 31-26 advantage, but it was Rohde’s key jump shot with just over three minutes left in the first half that sparked a 13-7 run, pushing Virginia’s lead to 44-33 at halftime.
The Demon Deacons emerged strong in the second half, reducing the deficit to 55-50 when Hildreth sank a jumper with 12 minutes left. However, Virginia’s vigorous response came with a 10-4 run, extending their lead to 65-54.
As the game progressed, Sallis brought Wake Forest back into contention with a critical three-point play and successful free throws during a spirited 10-1 run, narrowing the gap to 66-64 with under seven minutes to go. Despite their efforts, Wake Forest couldn’t close in further.
In the final moments, Virginia assured their victory with a decisive 13-4 run, effectively sealing the win and denying Wake Forest a comeback.
