In Brugelette, Belgium, an adorable Southern white rhino calf named Nova delighted onlookers at the Pairi Daiza zoo during her first public appearance. On Wednesday, Nova was enthusiastically playing and jumping around with her mother, Ellie, as zoo visitors watched with excitement.

Born on January 2nd, Nova initially required specialized care in a sheltered enclosure, ensuring she gained adequate strength and weight. Earlier this week, Ellie guided her young calf out for Nova’s introduction to the broader rhinoceros community within the zoo. This special moment also allowed visitors their first opportunity to see the rare baby rhino up close.

Ellie, Nova’s mother, is well-acquainted with these attention-grabbing moments, as Nova is her fourth calf. Southern white rhinoceroses, like Nova and her family, are primarily found in Southern Africa and are considered an endangered species.
