PHOENIX — In an unfortunate development for the Milwaukee Brewers, pitcher JB Bukauskas is anticipated to sit out the entire upcoming season due to surgery required for a lat injury. This marks another obstacle for Bukauskas, who has been plagued by injury troubles since being selected as a first-round draft pick.
The 28-year-old, who also missed a significant portion of the 2024 season with a similar lat issue, has found himself sidelined yet again. Bukauskas had shown promise with the Brewers, posting an impressive 1.50 ERA across six relief outings. During his time with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, he maintained a 1.80 ERA over six appearances.
Throughout his career, Bukauskas has made 33 relief appearances, achieving a 2-2 record and a cumulative ERA of 5.04. Originally drafted by the Houston Astros, Bukauskas was the 15th overall pick in 2017 after a notable collegiate career at the University of North Carolina. His injuries have hindered the trajectory of his major league career, and this recent surgery presents another challenge for his return to the mound.
Despite these setbacks, the team and fans remain hopeful for a full recovery and eventual return of the athlete. Until then, the Brewers will have to make adjustments to their bullpen strategy in the absence of Bukauskas’ contributions.
