LONDON — The manager of Liverpool, Arne Slot, has been issued a two-match touchline ban following his actions in the aftermath of the Merseyside derby against Everton. The decision was announced on Wednesday after Slot accepted the charges regarding his conduct towards the match officials at Goodison Park during the 2-2 draw that occurred on February 12.
According to the Football Association, Slot confessed to acting improperly and using language or behavior deemed insulting and abusive towards both the main referee and one of his assistants. In addition to the suspension, Slot faces a fine amounting to 70,000 pounds, equivalent to roughly $90,000.
Slot faced disciplinary action after receiving a red card for his behavior following the match. He later expressed remorse over his actions and acknowledged the consequences of his behavior towards the officials. The suspension means he will not be present on the touchline for Liverpool’s upcoming domestic fixtures.
During his suspension, Slot will miss Liverpool’s matches against Newcastle, scheduled for Wednesday, and Southampton on March 8. Both games will take place in the Premier League and are set to be held at Anfield, Liverpool’s home ground. Despite this setback, Liverpool currently maintains an 11-point lead in the league rankings.
As the team prepares to face upcoming challenges without Slot on the sidelines, the focus remains on maintaining their strong position at the top of the Premier League standings. The club continues to navigate through a demanding schedule while addressing disciplinary matters within the management team.
