James Madison triumphs over UL Monroe to share Sun Belt title

    MONROE, La. — In an intense matchup, Mark Freeman tallied 27 points, leading James Madison to an 85-79 victory over UL Monroe on Tuesday night. This win secures James Madison a share of the Sun Belt regular-season title.

    Under Preston Spradlin’s guidance, the Dukes (20-10, 13-4) have showcased impressive performance, securing their 20th win of the season and extending their winning streak to 10 consecutive games.

    Freeman had a dominant performance, shooting 7 of 15 from the field, including 3 of 7 from three-point range, and making all 10 of his free-throw attempts. Bryce Lindsay contributed significantly to the team’s success, scoring 20 points while shooting 7 of 16, including 6 of 11 from beyond the arc.

    Despite the Warhawks’ efforts, UL Monroe (7-23, 3-14) couldn’t topple the Dukes. Tyreese Watson led UL Monroe with a strong performance, scoring 26 points. Jalen Bolden and Makai Willis also played key roles for the Warhawks, recording 18 points and a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds, respectively.

    James Madison is set to conclude their regular season with a matchup against Texas State on Friday, while UL Monroe will face off against Arkansas State.
