HONOLULU — The Diamond Head Classic, a notable basketball tournament held in Hawaii with eight participating teams usually concluding on Christmas Day, will not occur next year, as confirmed by ESPN Events.

The future of this event remains uncertain, with a statement on Tuesday mentioning that the tournament is on hold and will not take place in 2025. Previously, ESPN Events, which oversees this tournament, indicated plans to conduct the 2025 games over Thanksgiving week while introducing a women’s tournament for the first time.
“We extend our gratitude to our partners and fans who have stood by us over the years and anticipate potential future prospects,” read the announcement.
This season, Nebraska clinched the tournament title by defeating Oregon State in the final match. Since its inception in 2009, the Diamond Head Classic has been an annual event, except in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2021, the expected championship game between Stanford and Vanderbilt was canceled because of COVID-19 challenges affecting Stanford, leading to Vanderbilt claiming the title.
