INDIANAPOLIS — Veteran NFL offensive tackle Jason Peters is stepping away from the field after an impressive 21-season career, as he transitions to a role within the Seattle Seahawks’ front office. Seahawks General Manager John Schneider announced the news during the NFL scouting combine held in Indianapolis.

Peters, a celebrated player with nine Pro Bowl appearances and two first-team All-Pro honors, will now assist Mo Kelly, Seattle Seahawks’ vice president of player affairs. The 43-year-old spent his final two NFL seasons with the Seahawks, participating in eight games in 2023 and spending time on the practice squad before an injury placed him on reserve in December.

Many fans will remember Peters for his formidable presence during his 11-season tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles, which included a Super Bowl victory in the 2017 season. His journey in professional football began when he joined the NFL in 2004 as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills, after a multi-positional college stint at Arkansas where he transitioned from defensive lineman to tight end.

Initially starting out as a tight end for the Bills, the towering 6-foot-4, over 300-pound Peters later converted to tackle. By 2005, he was starting on the line, and by 2006 had secured a starting position over the former first-round pick, Mike Williams. His performance at left tackle in 2007 earned him his first of four second-team All-Pro honors.

A contractual disagreement eventually resulted in Peters’ trade to the Eagles in 2009, where his robust career continued over 12 years, except for the 2012 season, which he missed due to a torn Achilles’ tendon. Peters then played for the Chicago Bears in 2021 followed by the Dallas Cowboys the subsequent year before finishing his playing career with a record 221 starts out of 248 games.
