PHOENIX — The Milwaukee Brewers have bolstered their roster by signing seasoned outfielder Mark Canha to a minor league contract, which comes with an invitation to their major league camp. This strategic decision by the two-time defending National League Central champions is part of their efforts to reinforce team depth, especially following a significant injury to another player. Outfielder Blake Perkins suffered a fractured right shin during batting practice, an unfortunate incident likely sidelining him for the initial month of the season. To counter this, Milwaukee had already extended a minor league offer inclusive of a major league camp invitation to Manuel Margot.
Mark Canha, 36, is no stranger to the Brewers, having previously joined them during the 2023 trade deadline. During his time with Milwaukee that season, he proved to be a valuable player by hitting .287, maintaining a .373 on-base percentage, and contributing five home runs, 33 RBIs, and four steals over 50 games.
In 2024, Canha split his season between the Detroit Tigers and the San Francisco Giants. Throughout those 125 games, he averaged a .242 batting rate and a .344 on-base percentage, with seven homers, 42 RBIs, and seven steals to his name.
Over his extensive career, Canha has demonstrated consistent performance. He has accumulated a career batting average of .249, alongside a .349 on-base percentage, totalizing 120 home runs and 459 RBIs across 1,049 games. These achievements span his time with various teams, including Oakland (2015-21), the New York Mets (2022-23), Milwaukee, Detroit, and San Francisco.
