EAST LANSING, Mich. — Grace VanSlooten delivered a strong performance, scoring 17 points, as No. 22 Michigan State emerged victorious with a 73-65 win against Indiana, ending a two-game losing streak on Sunday.
The Spartans, now sitting at 20 wins and 7 losses (10-6 in the Big Ten), were looking to recover after recent defeats to top-ranked UCLA and the fourth-ranked USC. Meanwhile, Indiana came into the matchup with a 17-10 record (9-7 in conference play), having achieved a notable upset against No. 8 Ohio State in their previous game.
Indiana started strong, quickly establishing a 10-3 lead within the first five minutes. However, Michigan State responded with a 12-point scoring run to flip the momentum, ending the first quarter ahead by five. The Spartans then extended their lead to 32-24 by halftime, and they managed to maintain a cushion of 13 points during the fourth quarter.
VanSlooten’s performance was complemented by Theryn Hallock, who contributed 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Jocelyn Tate also added 16 points along with four steals. Jaddan Simmons chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds. As a team, Michigan State shot 25 of 63 from the field, achieving a shooting percentage of 39.7%. Their long-range shooting struggled, as they made only 5 of 25 attempts but were effective at the foul line, converting 18 of 22 free throws.
On the Indiana side, Chloe Moore-McNeil recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while also providing three assists. Teammates Karoline Striplin and Yarden Garzon each scored 15 points, and Shay Ciezki contributed 13 points. Indiana’s shooting statistics reflected a performance of 25 out of 58 from the field (43.1%) and 6 of 22 from three-point range, while they went 9 of 14 from the charity stripe.
Looking ahead, Michigan State will round out the regular season starting Wednesday against No. 8 Ohio State and will host Minnesota on Saturday. Indiana, on the other hand, will host No. 21 Maryland on Wednesday before closing out their season at Purdue on Sunday.
