Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry came off the bench to score a late goal during a commanding 4-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt, strengthening their position at the top of the Bundesliga.
Gnabry’s goal, which caught Frankfurt’s goalkeeper Kevin Trapp off guard as the ball slipped through his legs, was a decisive moment in stoppage time. This came almost ten minutes after Jamal Musiala added the third goal, showcasing his skill as he maneuvered past multiple defenders and capitalized on a lucky deflection.
Even without their leading scorer Harry Kane, who played only the last thirty minutes due to a facial injury sustained in their previous match against Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern maintained a comfortable eight-point lead over the defending champions with eleven matches left in the season.
Head coach Vincent Kompany made a strategic choice to rest Kane, opting to start veteran Thomas Müller instead as part of six changes from the squad that drew 1-1 with Celtic during the Champions League playoffs on Tuesday.
Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitiké had an early opportunity to give his team the advantage after a mistake by Hiroki Ito, but it was Musiala who first threatened the scoreboard for Bayern, though his effort was cleared off the line.
The home side took control of the match, and Michael Olise managed to break the deadlock just before halftime, scoring after Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich had to exit due to an injury to his left thigh.
Following the break, Ito found the net in the 61st minute, marking his first goal for Bayern and doubling their advantage.
In a separate Bundesliga match earlier in the day, RB Leipzig saw their aspirations for Champions League qualification diminish further by settling for a 2-2 draw against Heidenheim, a team battling relegation.
This outcome shifted Freiburg back into the fourth spot—the final Champions League qualifying position—further ahead of Mainz, who now sit above Leipzig based on goal difference.
Stuttgart also had an opportunity to surpass Leipzig if they could secure a victory against Hoffenheim in the late match on Sunday.
