LOGAN, Utah — In a thrilling game on Saturday night, Dexter Akanno was the standout player for Utah State, scoring 26 points to help secure a 79-71 victory against San Diego State.

The win improves the Aggies’ record to 24-4 overall and 14-3 in the Mountain West Conference. Alongside Akanno, Ian Martinez and Deyton Albury each contributed significantly with 18 points.

For the Aztecs, who now hold a record of 18-7 and 11-5 in conference play, Nicholas Boyd led the way with 15 points and six assists. BJ Davis also made a solid contribution with 14 points, while Taj DeGourville and Miles Byrd added eight points each to the scoreboard.

Utah State went into halftime with a 33-26 lead, with Akanno emerging as the top scorer in the first half, netting 12 points before the break. The turning point in the game came when Martinez hit a crucial free throw with just under three minutes left in the second half, giving Utah State a 70-69 advantage that they would maintain for the rest of the game.

Looking ahead, Utah State’s next matchup is set for Wednesday, where they will compete against Boise State on the road. Meanwhile, San Diego State will face New Mexico in a home game on Tuesday.
