CHICAGO — Butler secured a victory over DePaul with a score of 84-72 on Saturday night, propelled by an impressive performance from Pierre Brooks, who recorded 24 points.
Brooks was also effective on the boards, contributing seven rebounds to his team’s efforts. The Bulldogs, now holding a record of 13-14 and 6-10 in the Big East Conference, saw notable contributions from Jahmyl Telfort, who added 17 points, alongside six rebounds and six assists. Finley Bizjack also made a mark with 16 points, displaying accuracy by shooting 5 of 9 from the field, including a commendable 4 for 6 from beyond the arc.
On the other side, the Blue Demons, with a record of 11-17 and 2-15 in the conference, were led by Layden Blocker, who netted 25 points and also recorded five assists. Isaiah Rivera had a solid outing as well, contributing with 13 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. CJ Gunn chipped in with 12 points for DePaul.
Butler managed to hold a narrow lead at halftime, up 40-34, with Brooks being the team’s high scorer before intermission, tallying 11 points. The Bulldogs took the lead for the last time in the game on a critical 3-pointer from Brooks, which came with just 4:25 remaining in the second half.
Both teams are set to return to the court on Wednesday. Butler will play host to St. John’s, while DePaul is slated to head to Creighton for their next matchup.
