Kancleris contributes 18 points in UIC’s 82-77 victory over Evansville

CHICAGO — Modestas Kancleris delivered a strong performance for UIC, contributing 18 points as the Flames triumphed over Evansville with a score of 82-77 on Saturday.

In addition to his scoring, Kancleris secured 10 rebounds, helping to solidify UIC’s position with a record of 17-12 overall and 9-9 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Sasa Ciani and Ahmad Henderson II each chipped in with 13 points, while Henderson had an impressive showing at the free-throw line, converting all 10 attempts.

For the Purple Aces, Gabriel Pozzato stood out with a game-high 23 points and collected six rebounds. Tayshawn Comer contributed significantly as well, posting 22 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists. Connor Turnbull added his own contribution, finishing the game with 18 points.

At halftime, UIC held a modest lead, ending the first period 39-31. Kancleris led the Flames in the first half with 12 points. The game turned in UIC’s favor during the second half when an 8-0 run shifted a three-point deficit into a five-point lead at 65-60 with just over seven minutes remaining. Ciani played a pivotal role in this phase, adding eight points in the second half.

Both teams are scheduled to play again on Wednesday. UIC will travel to Northern Iowa, while Evansville prepares to host Drake.
