ROME — Lautaro Martinez secured a late victory for Inter Milan with a 1-0 win over Genoa, allowing his team to temporarily take the top spot in Serie A on Saturday.

Martinez headed in a corner that deflected off a Genoa defender, breaking the scoreless tie at the San Siro.

In a spirited celebration, the Argentine forward climbed onto a security fence to share the moment with Inter fans across the barrier.

With this win, Inter has moved one point ahead of Napoli, which has a chance to reclaim first place with a victory against Como on Sunday.

The two teams will face each other next weekend in an anticipated match.

Meanwhile, AC Milan continues to struggle following their elimination from the Champions League just days ago. They faced a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Torino, further complicating their season.

The match started poorly for Milan when an own goal from Malick Thiaw occurred merely five minutes in, resulting from a clearance attempt by goalkeeper Mike Maignan that unexpectedly deflected off Thiaw and into the net.

Christian Pulisic, the United States international, had a rough outing as well, missing a penalty kick for the first time in his career. Torino goalkeeper Sergej Milinkovic-Savic made a crucial save, diving to his right to deny Pulisic’s low shot.

Milinkovic-Savic has demonstrated strong penalty-saving abilities, managing to stop four out of five of the penalties he has faced this season.

After Joao Felix hit the post with a shot, Milan managed to equalize in the 74th minute thanks to Tijjani Reijnders. However, Torino quickly responded and regained the lead just two minutes later with a powerful shot from Gvidas Gineitis following a free kick that caught Milan off guard.

As a result, Milan remains in seventh place, while Torino climbed to the 11th position on the league table.

Previously, Milan was knocked out of the Champions League by Feyenoord, losing on an aggregate score of 2-1.

Earlier in the day, Parma’s new coach Cristian Chivu secured a solid start to his tenure with a convincing 2-0 victory over local rivals Bologna, while Lazio, sitting in fourth place, managed only a goalless draw against relegation-threatened Venezia.
