COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — In a close contest on Saturday, Rodney Johnson Jr. emerged as a key player for Tennessee Tech, contributing significantly with 20 points, leading his team to a narrow 77-74 victory over Tennessee State.

Johnson also made an impactful presence on the boards, grabbing eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who now hold a record of 15 wins and 14 losses overall, with a conference record of 10-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Supporting Johnson, Jaylon Johnson scored 15 points, despite hitting just 2 of 9 from the field including 1 of 6 on three-pointers. He did, however, excel at the free-throw line, making 10 out of 14 attempts, while also contributing seven assists. Daniel Egbuniwe rounded out the scoring efforts with 11 points, going 4 for 11 shooting overall, and highlighting his versatility with eight rebounds and five steals, albeit struggling with his outside shooting at just 1 for 7 from beyond the arc.

On the opposing side, the Tigers were powered by Justus Jackson, who led his team with 19 points. Travis Harper II recorded a double-double with 11 points and an impressive 11 rebounds, showing his dominance on the inside. Aaron Nkrumah added to the effort with 10 points along with four assists, but it wasn’t quite enough to secure a win against the Golden Eagles.

Looking ahead, both teams are set to return to the court on Thursday. Tennessee Tech will be playing at home against Western Illinois, while Tennessee State will also host a matchup against Morehead State.
