PHOENIX — Blake Perkins, the Milwaukee Brewers outfielder, is anticipated to be sidelined for the first month of the upcoming season due to a fractured right shin he sustained during batting practice.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy disclosed the details of Perkins’ injury prior to their Cactus League debut against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.

“They estimate his recovery will take around three to four weeks, followed by a ramp-up period of about four to six weeks,” Murphy indicated. “Realistically, you’re looking at him returning in May.”

Perkins, who is 28 years old, had a season in which he posted a .240 batting average, a .316 on-base percentage, six home runs, 43 runs batted in (RBIs), and 23 steals across 121 games last year. Additionally, he was recognized as a finalist for the NL Gold Glove award in center field.

“Perkins plays a vital role on our team,” Murphy expressed. “He significantly contributes to the team chemistry. Everyone loves Perk; he is a highly regarded member of the team and has shown improvement both defensively and offensively. Losing him will certainly be a setback for us.”

Furthermore, Murphy provided updates on right-handed pitcher JB Bukauskas, who is believed to be dealing with a serious lat injury and is now weighing the option of undergoing surgery. Last season, Bukauskas had an impressive 1.50 ERA in six relief appearances but had to miss a substantial part of the season due to ongoing lat issues.
