ZURICH — Niels Hintermann, the Swiss downhill skiing competitor, shared some uplifting news on Saturday: he has triumphed over lymph node cancer. The 29-year-old skier took to his Instagram to announce his recovery, noting that he had initially revealed his diagnosis in October, which led to him missing the entire ski season for treatment purposes.

“The days weren’t always easy, but naturally I’m overjoyed that this time is now over,” Hintermann expressed, reflecting on the challenges he faced during his health struggle. He is recognized not only for his resilience but also for his accomplishments on the slopes, having secured three victories in World Cup races.

During his career spanning the past nine years, Hintermann has participated in a total of 100 World Cup events and showcased his talent at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where he finished in 16th place in the men’s downhill event. His journey in competitive skiing is marked by significant achievements, including his unexpected victory at Wengen in 2017, where he won an Alpine combined event while wearing bib number 51. Notably, he also clinched two downhill race victories at Kvitfjell, Norway, in both 2022 and the previous year.

This triumphant news comes as a significant milestone for Hintermann, allowing him to look forward to the future and potentially return to the sport he loves. His story of perseverance serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the importance of determination and hope in overcoming life’s obstacles.
