DURHAM, N.C. — Jayda Curry delivered an impressive performance, scoring a season-high 24 points, as Louisville defeated No. 11 Duke, marking the latter’s first home loss of the season by a score of 70-62 on Thursday night.
Curry was flawless at the free-throw line, sinking all nine attempts, six of which came during the final quarter as the Cardinals (19-7, 12-3) converted 16 of 17 foul shots to secure a fourth consecutive victory. This win places them in a tie for third place in the ACC alongside North Carolina.
Joining Curry in the scoring column, Ja’Leah Williams contributed 13 points while Tajianna Roberts added 11. Despite being outshot by the Blue Devils, Louisville’s free-throw shooting was exceptional, finishing the game with 22 successful attempts out of 25, compared to Duke’s perfect 4-for-4 effort.
For Duke (20-7, 11-4), Oluchi Okananwa led the bench scoring with 17 points, with Reigan Richardson also chipping in 10 points. Although the Blue Devils managed to shoot 50% from the field, their struggles from beyond the arc were evident, as they made only 2 of 13 attempts and lost scoring opportunities by turning the ball over 20 times, which resulted in 27 points for Louisville.
As the final quarter unfolded, the teams were tied. Nyla Harris broke the stalemate by sinking two free throws with 2:38 remaining, igniting a crucial 10-2 run to close out the game, which included six of Curry’s free throws.
Duke, having trailed by six at halftime, had fought back to tie the game at 45 with a run of six straight points at the end of the third quarter.
Prior to this contest, Louisville arrived with momentum from three consecutive wins, featuring victories over ranked opponents, including Cal and Florida State, as well as Stanford.
Looking ahead, Louisville will host No. 9 North Carolina, while Duke will face Syracuse at home on Sunday.
