
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas System Board of Regents has granted a three-year contract extension to women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer, ensuring his position through the end of the 2029-2030 season.
Now in his fifth season with the Longhorns, Schaefer, 63, has achieved significant success, guiding the team to three appearances in the Elite Eight. Currently boasting a record of 26 wins and 2 losses, Texas is ranked second nationally and is tied for first place in the Southeastern Conference as they aim for one of the coveted four No. 1 seeds in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Under the terms of the extension, Schaefer’s salary will remain steady at $2.3 million annually until the end of the 2026-27 season. Following that period, his base salary will increase by $100,000 each successive year, reaching $2.6 million by the conclusion of the contract in 2030.
Schaefer’s impressive career record at Texas stands at 135 wins to 34 losses. Before joining Texas, he made a mark at Mississippi State, leading the program to the Final Four in both 2017 and 2018.
