    WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Paul DeJong is set to secure all of his $600,000 in potential performance incentives if he reaches 550 plate appearances this season.

    The former All-Star infielder has finalized a one-year deal worth $1 million, a contract revealed on Sunday.

    Within the terms of his agreement, DeJong stands to gain $100,000 for hitting each of the milestones at 200, 300, 400, 450, 500, and 550 plate appearances.

    DeJong, who was named an All-Star in 2019, had a challenging 2023 season, posting a batting average of .227 along with 24 home runs and 56 runs batted in while playing for both the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals, the latter of which acquired him on July 30.

    Over the course of his eight-year career, which includes time with St. Louis (2017-2023), Toronto (2023), San Francisco (2023), as well as the White Sox and Royals, he has recorded a .229 batting average, 140 home runs, and 400 RBIs.
