SEATTLE — In an exciting matchup, Rutgers triumphed over Washington 89-85 in overtime, with Dylan Harper delivering a stellar performance by scoring 34 points. This marked Harper’s third game of the season achieving at least 30 points, showcasing his scoring prowess.

Ace Bailey contributed significantly as well, registering 18 points and securing eight rebounds for Rutgers (13-14, 6-10 Big Ten) while dealing with foul issues throughout the game. Additionally, Jeremiah Williams played a crucial role, adding 13 points and notching three steals to the Knights’ total.

With just under two minutes remaining in overtime, Harper converted two free throws, followed by Bailey splitting a pair of foul shots, which helped Rutgers to a narrow 84-81 lead. Subsequently, a putback from Franck Kepnang closed the gap to one point. In a pivotal moment, Bailey snatched an offensive rebound, drew a foul, and sank both free throws to extend the lead to 86-83 with only a minute left on the clock.

During the overtime period, both teams struggled with their shooting, combining for a mere 2-of-15 from the field. However, Rutgers found success at the free-throw line, converting 8 of 12 attempts, which allowed them to significantly outscore Washington by a margin of 26 to 9.

On the Washington side, Mekhi Mason and Vazoumana “Zoom” Diallo each contributed 20 points. Additionally, Great Osobor and Tyler Harris made notable contributions with 17 points apiece. In a crucial moment near the end, Mason managed to dislodge the ball from Harper at midcourt. A scramble ensued, resulting in the ball going out of bounds off Rutgers. Williams capitalized on the subsequent inbounds pass by stealing the ball and drawing a foul from Osobor, who fouled out with his fifth foul. Williams hit one of his two free throws, tying the score at 81 with just ten seconds remaining. Unfortunately, after missing the second free throw, Harper’s attempt at a winning three-pointer fell short as time expired.

This encounter marked the first time Washington, in their inaugural season in the Big Ten, faced Rutgers, the last Big Ten team they had yet to play. Rutgers will return to its home court to take on USC this coming Sunday, while Washington is also scheduled for a Sunday matchup against Iowa.
