LOGAN, Utah — Ian Martinez shone brightly in the game against San Jose State on Wednesday evening, contributing 22 points to Utah State’s overwhelming 105-57 victory.
Martinez also recorded three steals, playing a crucial role in the team’s defense for the Aggies, who improved to a season record of 23-4 and 13-3 in the Mountain West Conference.
Mason Falslev supported the team’s offensive efforts with 13 points, shooting 5 of 11 from the field and hitting one of three shots from beyond the arc, while also providing eight assists and three steals.
Dexter Akanno matched Falslev’s output by scoring 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including three successful three-pointers out of six attempts.
The impressive victory marked Utah State’s largest point differential against a conference rival since the program joined the Mountain West in 2013.
Throughout that period, the Aggies successfully scored over 100 points in a conference match— all three occurrences were against San Jose State.
For the Spartans, who fell to a record of 12-16 and 5-11 in conference play, Sadraque NgaNga was a standout, scoring 15 points.
Donavan Yap also contributed with 15 points along with three steals, while Jermaine Washington added eight points to the mix.
From the outset, Utah State claimed the lead less than two minutes into the game, and they maintained their advantage throughout.
Martinez spearheaded the scoring in the first half, netting 12 points, which helped the Aggies establish a commanding 47-24 lead by halftime.
In the second half, Utah State escalated their dominance, pushing the score to 83-36 due to a potent 23-2 scoring surge.
Akanno took charge in the second half, scoring a total of 10 points to help secure the resounding victory for his team.
