BOSTON — In a thrilling match on Wednesday night, Kyrone Alexander shone for Boston University, scoring 20 points and sealing the win with a crucial jump shot just 25 seconds before the final buzzer, leading the Terriers to a narrow 68-66 victory over Loyola Maryland.
Alexander also contributed significantly with six rebounds, helping the Terriers improve to a record of 14-14 and 8-7 in the Patriot League. Miles Brewster played a key role as well, adding 16 points while making 6 of 15 attempts, including a commendable 4 for 9 from the three-point range. Ben Defty rounded out the scoring for Boston University with 12 points, hitting 5 out of 6 shots.
The game saw its intensity rise in the closing moments when Milos Ilic of Loyola put the Greyhounds ahead with a jumper, giving them a three-point lead with only 1:39 left on the clock. However, Alexander responded by being fouled while converting a jumper, successfully completing the subsequent free throw 27 seconds later to tie the game. After the Terriers secured a defensive stop, Alexander then sank another jumper to ensure the pivotal win for his team.
In a nail-biting finish, Jacob Theodosiou had a chance to win it for Loyola but missed a clean look at a potential game-winning three-pointer as time expired.
The Greyhounds, struggling with a current record of 10-16 and 5-10 in league play, were led by Jordan Stiemke who managed to score 19 points. Ilic contributed 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Theodosiou also finished with 13 points, adding seven rebounds and four steals.
Boston University held a slight advantage at halftime, leading Loyola 34-31, with Alexander contributing 11 points in the first half. Brewster’s performance in the second half was also noteworthy as he added another 13 points to help secure the Terriers’ victory.
