Paul Zilinskas delivered a stellar performance, scoring 28 points and leading IU Indianapolis to an 80-71 victory against Detroit Mercy on Wednesday night.
Zilinskas made 9 of 15 attempts from the field, including an impressive 5 for 8 from beyond the arc, and he was perfect from the free-throw line, hitting all 5 attempts. The Jaguars improved their record to 9-19 overall and 5-12 in the Horizon League. Alongside Zilinskas, Jarvis Walker contributed significantly with 20 points, shooting 6 of 15 from the field, with 3 for 4 from three-point territory, and also making 5 of 6 from the foul line. Alec Millender also had a strong outing, scoring 16 points on 6 of 7 shooting, including 2 for 3 from long range.
For Detroit Mercy, Orlando Lovejoy was the standout player, finishing the game with 22 points along with nine rebounds and four assists. Teammates TJ Nadeau and Nate Johnson added 16 and 13 points, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for the Titans, who now hold a record of 8-20 and 4-13 in conference play.
Looking ahead, IU Indianapolis will face Northern Kentucky this coming Sunday on the road, while Detroit Mercy is set to host Cleveland State on Friday.
