JACKSON, Miss. — On Wednesday, the lieutenant governor of Mississippi suffered a collapse while at the state Senate, later attributing the incident to dehydration.

Footage captured in the Senate chamber showed Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann at a podium where he suddenly leaned forward and then fell to the ground. Emergency personnel quickly attended to him, prompting the Senate to go into a brief recess.

Subsequently, Hosemann’s office communicated that he was “doing well and in good spirits,” expressing gratitude towards the medical team for their prompt response. The lieutenant governor later shared a message thanking everyone for their “kind words and prayers,” reiterating that dehydration was the cause of his condition, but he was now “feeling fine.”

In his statement, Hosemann expressed appreciation for Mississippi’s outstanding medical professionals, indicating his eagerness to resume work the following day. “Lesson learned: Stay hydrated,” he added.

Governor Tate Reeves took to social media platform X to share that he and his wife were “praying for Lieutenant Governor Hosemann!” The outpouring of support was echoed by other state lawmakers, who also shared their well wishes.

Just a week prior, on February 12, Hosemann had introduced a substantial tax cut package worth $326 million. He mentioned that the plan, designed to reduce taxes over the next four years, needed to be sustainable. The proposal includes lowering state income tax and grocery sales tax while aiming to raise the gasoline tax to fund infrastructure projects.
