MILWAUKEE — In a decisive showing, Kam Jones contributed 14 points, while Chase Ross scored 11, leading No. 16 Marquette to an easy 80-56 victory over Seton Hall on a Tuesday night matchup.

Ben Gold also made his presence felt with 10 points for Marquette, who improved to a record of 20-6 overall and 11-4 in the Big East Conference.

On the opposing side, Seton Hall, now at 7-19 and 2-13 in conference play, relied on Isaiah Coleman’s 13 points, supplemented by Scotty Middleton, who added nine.

A key moment in the game came when Marquette’s Stevie Mitchell exited after sustaining what appeared to be an arm injury with under six minutes remaining in the first half; however, he managed to return later in the game. Mitchell had been performing notably well this season, ranking fifth nationally in steals with an average of 2.6 per game.

Looking at the game’s context, Seton Hall had a chance to build on the momentum from their recent 69-68 overtime victory over UConn. That win followed a streak of nine consecutive losses, but the Pirates struggled against Marquette. They managed a shooting percentage of just 37% compared to their 39% against UConn and fell below 30% during parts of the second half.

For Marquette, this victory marked a significant turnaround after experiencing three straight losses prior to their win against DePaul on February 11. As a result, Marquette now finds themselves in a tie for second place with Creighton in the conference standings.

The pivotal moment of the game was a 23-10 run by the Golden Eagles, which allowed them to extend their lead from 17-13 to a commanding 40-23 by halftime. This run effectively put the game out of reach for the Pirates, who could not regain their footing thereafter.

In terms of statistics, Marquette dominated the boards, out-rebounding Seton Hall 40-24, with a significant advantage of 27-15 in defensive rebounds.

Looking ahead, Seton Hall will be hosting Xavier on Sunday, while Marquette is set to travel to Villanova for their next game on Friday night.
