BATON ROUGE, La. — Cam Carter led the way with 17 points as LSU defeated South Carolina 81-67 in a game held on Tuesday night.

The win marked LSU’s (14-12, 3-10 Southeastern Conference) second consecutive victory, following a hard-fought triumph over Oklahoma on Saturday, which they won 82-79. The Tigers had previously encountered a tough stretch, losing seven games in a row.

Carter’s shooting was effective, finishing with 7 out of 14 attempts from the field. The team as a whole registered an impressive shooting percentage of 50%, making 31 of 62 shots. In addition to Carter’s contributions, Mike Williams III added 13 points, Vyctorius Miller contributed 12, and Dji Bailey scored 11. Notably, Carter, Williams, and Miller each hit three of the Tigers’ 13 successful three-pointers.

South Carolina (10-16, 0-13) saw Jamarii Thomas shine with a strong performance, scoring 23 points. Collin Murray-Boyles also had a noteworthy game, tallying 16 points and collecting 10 rebounds, but the teams struggled despite their efforts.

Carter’s scoring helped LSU establish a comfortable 41-27 lead by halftime, outpacing South Carolina. Despite a brief 7-0 run from the Gamecocks early in the second half, which narrowed the gap to 43-34, LSU maintained control of the game. Carter’s timely back-to-back three-pointers helped the Tigers pull away once again.

For South Carolina, this loss marked their 13th straight defeat, as they continue to search for their first SEC victory. They will face Texas at home this Saturday in hopes of breaking their winless streak since December 30, when they last claimed a victory against Presbyterian.

On the other hand, LSU is set to challenge No. 2 Florida in their next matchup, as they face a demanding five-game stretch against currently ranked opponents.
