Milwaukee witnessed a dominant performance as the No. 16 Marquette Golden Eagles rolled past the Seton Hall Pirates with a commanding 80-56 victory on Tuesday evening.

Kam Jones led Marquette with 14 points, while Chase Ross contributed 11 points. Ben Gold also made an impact, chipping in with 10 points for the Golden Eagles, who improved their record to 20-6 overall and 11-4 in the Big East Conference.

For Seton Hall, which now stands at 7-19 and 2-13 in conference play, Isaiah Coleman was the top scorer with 13 points, followed by Scotty Middleton who added nine. The Pirates were looking to build on the momentum from their recent overtime win against UConn, but struggled to find their rhythm.

Marquette faced a scare when Stevie Mitchell left the court with an apparent arm injury just over six minutes before halftime. Fortunately for the team, Mitchell returned later and continued to play; he has been a standout player this season, ranking fifth in the nation for steals with an average of 2.6 per game.

In terms of overall performance, Seton Hall was unable to replicate their shooting success from the UConn game, where they managed a 39% field goal percentage. Against Marquette, they could only manage 37% overall, and their shooting dipped below 30% for a significant portion of the second half.

The turning point in the game came when Marquette, leading 17-13, went on a fierce 23-10 run, extending their lead to 40-23 by halftime. From that moment onward, Seton Hall was unable to recover.

A significant aspect of Marquette’s victory was their dominance in rebounding, as they outmatched Seton Hall 40-24, including a notable 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds.

Looking ahead, Seton Hall will host Xavier on Sunday, while Marquette is set to face Villanova on Friday night as they continue their pursuit of conference success.
