FORT MYERS, Fla. — On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox announced the addition of right-handed relief pitcher Adam Ottavino to their spring training roster as a non-roster invitee.

Ottavino, who is 39 years old, has spent the last three seasons playing for the New York Mets. During the 2023 season, he achieved a personal milestone by recording a career-high of 12 saves along with a commendable earned run average (ERA) of 3.21. The previous year, he had a record of 2-2, collected one save, and ended the season with a 4.34 ERA.

This will mark Ottavino’s second time playing with the Red Sox; during his previous tenure with the team in 2021, he compiled a 7-3 record, secured 11 saves, and posted a 4.21 ERA. The addition of Ottavino is expected to bolster the bullpen as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

With significant experience in high-pressure situations, Ottavino’s return might prove beneficial for the Red Sox as they look to strengthen their pitching roster ahead of the competitive baseball season. His familiarity with the team dynamics could also contribute positively as he re-integrates into the organization.
