MILAN — Santiago Giménez, a former forward for Feyenoord, has kept his impressive scoring run alive in the Champions League this season, notably finding the net against his former club.

Giménez, who made a transfer to AC Milan from Feyenoord last month for a reported fee of 30 million euros (around $31 million), wasted no time making an impact. He scored just 40 seconds into the second leg of their Champions League knockout playoff on Tuesday, helping to put his new team ahead.

After netting the goal, the 23-year-old Mexican international displayed sportsmanship by raising his hands in a gesture of apology, recognizing the bittersweet moment of scoring against his previous team.

This latest goal marks Giménez’s sixth in just seven Champions League appearances this season, with all his prior goals having been scored while playing for Feyenoord. Moreover, he has also registered two goals for Milan in Serie A matches since joining the club.

In the first leg of the knockout stage last week, the Dutch side managed a narrow victory with a score of 1-0, thanks in part to a rare mistake made by Milan’s goalkeeper, Mike Maignan.
