BOSTON – Defenseman Charlie McAvoy of the Boston Bruins will not be participating in the championship match of the 4 Nations Face-Off, which is being held on his home turf, due to a non-specific upper body injury, as announced by his NHL team on Tuesday.

The head coach of the United States team, Mike Sullivan, has confirmed that Vancouver’s Quinn Hughes, who recently earned the Norris Trophy, will take McAvoy’s place on the roster. Hughes has been sidelined for the past four games with the Canucks and had initially opted out of this international tournament just before it commenced.

The U.S. team is scheduled to face Canada in the final showdown taking place at TD Garden on Thursday evening.
