Monaco has officially welcomed center Daniel Theis, who previously played in the NBA and is a renowned figure in German basketball, after his notable victory at the World Cup.
Theis brings with him a wealth of experience, having spent eight seasons in the NBA where he averaged 7.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists throughout his career.
Before diving into NBA waters, Theis showcased his talent in the German basketball league.
His new chapter with Monaco marks a return to the EuroLeague, a prestigious competition that he is eager to re-engage with.
“Monaco has achieved remarkable things over the past few years, reaching the last four of the EuroLeague, and currently being among the top four teams this season,” Theis expressed.
“I wanted to be part of this journey, vie for victories, and contend for the EuroLeague title.”
Theis recently celebrated a major achievement by contributing to Germany’s triumph in the 2023 World Cup, where they delivered one of the sport’s greatest upsets by narrowly defeating the United States with a final score of 113-111 in the semifinals, followed by a victory against Serbia in the championship game.
This month, Theis was involved in a trade that saw him move from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the latter of which subsequently waived him.
Standing at 6-foot-8, Theis made 38 appearances for the Pelicans this season, starting in nine of those games, while averaging 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists across 16.3 minutes per contest.
