LEXINGTON, Ky. — Georgia Amoore led the eighth-ranked Kentucky Wildcats to a convincing 84-55 victory over Georgia on Sunday, scoring 21 points in the match.
As a senior, Amoore was instrumental in the first half, contributing 15 points and sinking three shots from behind the arc. This victory allowed Kentucky (20-4, 9-3 SEC) to end a two-game skid and achieve a regular-season sweep over the Bulldogs.
Dazia Lawrence also had a notable performance, shooting three 3-pointers to add 15 points to the team’s total. Amelia Hassett demonstrated her shooting prowess as well, with four 3-pointers, three of which came in the first quarter, for a total of 14 points. Additionally, Teonni Key registered a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Clara Strack rounded out the scoring with another 14 points.
On the opposing side, Trinity Turner was the standout for Georgia (10-16, 2-10), finishing the game with 22 points, including 20 in the first half.
Georgia had hoped to build on their recent victory over Arkansas the previous Sunday, giving them a week to rest and strategize. However, after scoring 43 points in their earlier encounter against Kentucky on January 19, the Bulldogs struggled offensively, managing only 25 points in the final two quarters of this matchup.
For Kentucky, this victory marked an important milestone as they secured their 20th win of the season for the first time since the 2019-2020 campaign, which was also the last season under coach Matthew Mitchell.
A significant statistic from the game was Kentucky’s impressive ability to hit 11 three-pointers overall, with eight of those coming during the first half alone, alongside recording nine blocks defensively.
A crucial moment of the game occurred in the first quarter when Kentucky produced six 3-pointers, including three consecutive ones in a 13-0 run that expanded their lead from 12-9 to 16 points with just 2:26 left in the period.
Looking ahead, Georgia will travel to face fifth-ranked LSU on Thursday, while Kentucky is set to take on Missouri next Sunday.
