JONESBORO, Ark. — In a thrilling close matchup, Troy edged out Arkansas State with a nail-biting 71-70 victory on Saturday evening.
Jackson Fields was a standout performer for the Trojans, contributing 20 points to the team’s success.
In addition to his scoring, Fields secured eight rebounds and made three notable steals, showcasing his all-around game for Troy, which now holds a record of 17 wins and 9 losses, with a 10-4 mark in the Sun Belt Conference.
Tayton Conerway supported the team with 13 points, though he struggled with his shooting, making only 5 of 13 attempts and just 1 of 6 from long range.
Meanwhile, Thomas Dowd rounded out Troy’s scoring efforts with another 13 points, shooting 3 of 6 from the field and hitting 2 of his 5 attempts from downtown, in addition to going 5 for 8 at the free-throw line.
On the other side, the Red Wolves, now 19-8 overall and also 10-4 in the conference, saw Terrance Ford Jr. lead their efforts with 18 points alongside five assists and a pair of steals.
Izaiyah Nelson contributed significantly with a double-double performance, totaling 14 points and 14 rebounds, while also blocking two shots.
Taryn Todd matched Nelson’s scoring output, recording 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds, helping to keep Arkansas State competitive throughout the game.
Looking ahead, the Trojans will prepare for a home game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday, while the Red Wolves will host South Alabama on Wednesday.
