FRESNO, Calif. — Jaden Henley contributed 13 points to lead UNLV to a narrow victory over Fresno State, finishing 52-51 in a close contest on Saturday night.
Henley also recorded nine rebounds, helping the Runnin’ Rebels improve their record to 14-12 overall and 8-7 in the Mountain West Conference. Jailen Bedford matched Henley’s scoring total with 13 points, shooting 5 of 15 from the field and 3 of 9 from three-point range, along with six rebounds. Julian Rishwain managed eight points despite struggling with his shooting, finishing 3 of 12 overall and 1 of 7 from long distance.
Late in the game, Bedford made two three-pointers merely 25 seconds apart, giving UNLV a significant 11-point advantage with just over eight minutes remaining. However, the Runnin’ Rebels hit a rough patch, missing their next seven attempts and committing seven turnovers, which allowed Fresno State to respond with a streak of 12 unanswered points. This run culminated in Zaon Collins’ layup, putting the Bulldogs ahead 51-50, marking their first lead of the evening with just over a minute to go.
In a tense moment, Henley scored the key layup to reclaim the lead for UNLV with 41 seconds left, although he missed the additional free throw due to the foul. In a critical defensive stand, Pape N’Diaye blocked a crucial shot, maintaining the Rebels’ slim lead. Jalen Weaver had an opportunity to steal the win for Fresno State but his three-point attempt fell short as time expired.
Elijah Price was a standout performer for the Bulldogs (5-21, 1-14), leading the team with 15 points, along with 12 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Brian Amuneke contributed nine points alongside Alex Crawford, who added eight points and three blocks. This loss marks Fresno State’s eighth consecutive defeat.
Henley had a productive first half, scoring seven points that helped UNLV establish a 26-18 lead at halftime. Despite being outscored by seven points in the second half, the Rebels managed to hold on to their lead, with Bedford contributing the bulk of his scoring in the final period.
Looking ahead, UNLV is set to host Colorado State next Saturday, while Fresno State will travel to face San Diego State this Tuesday.
