DAVIDSON, N.C. — In a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, Rafael Castro was instrumental in leading George Washington to a 74-67 victory over Davidson, scoring a total of 20 points.
Castro also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing six rebounds, and his performance helped elevate the Revolutionaries to a record of 17 wins and 9 losses, with a 6-7 standing in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Besides Castro, Christian Jones had a robust game, netting 12 points while shooting an impressive 5 for 7 from the field, including 2 for 3 from three-point range. Gerald Drumgoole Jr. added 11 points with a shooting line of 4 of 11 which included hitting 3 out of 8 three-point attempts.
For the Wildcats, who now hold a record of 15-10 overall and 5-7 in the conference, Bobby Durkin emerged as the top scorer with 21 points. He also logged seven rebounds and made two blocks during the game. Zach Laput added further support for Davidson, contributing 17 points, while Reed Bailey rounded out the scoring effort with 16 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.
The match saw George Washington jump out to an early 18-6 lead, which was fueled by a remarkable 14-0 scoring run. Thanks in part to Castro’s seven points in the first half, George Washington secured a narrow 32-27 lead by halftime. In a pivotal moment during the second half, Castro’s successful free throw with just over four minutes remaining put George Washington ahead 60-59, allowing them to retain control for the remainder of the game.
Looking ahead, George Washington is scheduled to host Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday, while Davidson will prepare to face Loyola Chicago at home this coming Tuesday.
