Willis scores 22 as Western Michigan defeats Miami (OH) 78-70.

    KALAMAZOO, Mich. – On Saturday, Western Michigan emerged victorious with a score of 78-70 against Miami (OH), propelled by an impressive performance from Chansey Willis Jr., who scored 22 points.
    Willis also recorded seven assists and four steals, contributing significantly to the Broncos’ success, improving their record to 8-17 overall and 5-7 in the Mid-American Conference.

    Donovan Williams made a strong impact as well, adding 15 points to the scoreboard. He shot five out of twelve from the field, including one of four from beyond the arc, and sank four of his five free-throw attempts. Additionally, he secured 15 rebounds during the match. Javaughn Hannah contributed 13 points for the Broncos, making four of ten attempts from the field, two of four from three-point range, and hitting three of four at the free-throw line.

    For the RedHawks, who now stand at 19-6 with a 10-2 conference record, Brant Byers was the standout player, scoring 19 points. Mekhi Cooper provided additional support with 12 points, while teammate Antwone Woolfolk notched 11 points and recorded two blocks. This defeat for the RedHawks snapped their impressive five-game winning streak.

    In the first half, Markhi Strickland managed to put up eight points, but Western Michigan found themselves down at halftime with a score of 32-30. However, Chansey Willis’s 16-point effort in the second half propelled the Broncos to secure the eight-point victory.

    Looking ahead, both teams are set to compete on Tuesday. Western Michigan will make the trip to Buffalo, while Miami (OH) will face off against Eastern Michigan.
