NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — On Friday evening, Rider University triumphed over Iona in a nail-biting contest, concluding with a score of 74-71.

Zion Cruz was a standout for Rider, contributing 18 points with an effective shooting performance, hitting 6 of 13 attempts, including 3 for 6 from beyond the arc, and making 3 of 6 from the free-throw line. His teammates also made significant contributions, with TJ Weeks Jr. scoring 17 points and securing 8 rebounds. Weeks finished the night shooting 5 of 12, though he struggled from long range, ending 0 for 3 on three-point attempts. Stephen Byard added support with 11 points, hitting 4 of 6 shots from the field and 3 of 4 from the charity stripe.

For the Iona Gaels, Dejour Reaves showcased an impressive performance, leading the team with 21 points and two steals. Yaphet Moundi was another key player, contributing 18 points along with seven rebounds, while Luke Jungers added 14 points and two blocks to the mix.

Both Rider and Iona are set to return to action on Sunday, with Rider traveling to take on Saint Peter’s and Iona heading out to face Quinnipiac.
