KENT, Ohio — Cian Medley delivered an impressive performance by scoring 24 points to lead Kent State to a narrow 76-75 win against Ohio on Friday night.
Medley demonstrated his shooting skills, making 8 of 13 attempts from the floor, including 2 for 6 from beyond the arc, and successfully converting all six of his free-throw attempts. The Golden Flashes, with a record of 17-8 and 7-5 in the Mid-American Conference, saw Jalen Sullinger contribute significantly as well, scoring 18 points with an efficient 5 for 9 shooting, which included two triples, while also going a perfect 6 for 6 at the charity stripe. VonCameron Davis added 10 points to the team’s total, although he was less efficient with 3 of 12 shooting, including 2 of 4 from three-point territory.
The Ohio Bobcats, now standing at 13-12 and also with a 7-5 record in their conference, were spearheaded by Shereef Mitchell. He notched 25 points and had four steals, showcasing his all-around game. Jackson Paveletzke provided additional support with 12 points and five assists, while Elmore James matched that scoring total with 12 points of his own.
Kent State entered halftime with a slight edge, leading Ohio 44-40. Medley played a pivotal role in this first half, contributing 14 points to help his team maintain their advantage. As the contest neared its conclusion, Medley’s crucial free throw with just over a minute left secured the lead for Kent State at 71-70, a score they wouldn’t relinquish.
Both teams are set to return to the court on Tuesday for their next matchups, with Kent State traveling to face Bowling Green and Ohio preparing to host Central Michigan.
