Wall Street experienced a downturn as major corporations released mixed financial results, preventing the market from achieving a new record high.

On Friday, the S&P 500 closed nearly unchanged, just a day after coming within 0.1% of its all-time record reached the previous month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a decline of 0.4%, while the Nasdaq composite increased by 0.4%.

Airbnb’s shares surged after the company exceeded profit expectations in its latest report, attracting investor interest. In contrast, Applied Materials saw its stock fall due to disappointing revenue forecasts that did not meet certain projections. Additionally, Treasury yields softened following news that retail sales in the United States showed a significant decline last month.

The S&P 500 decreased by 0.44 points, which is less than 0.1%, finishing at 6,114.63.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 165.35 points, equating to 0.4%, closing at 44,546.08.
