Raheem Mostert has officially parted ways with the Miami Dolphins, as the team revealed his release on Friday. Alongside Mostert, Miami also announced the departures of cornerback Kendall Fuller and tight end Durham Smythe.
Mostert’s agent, Brett Tessler, shared the news on social media, stating, “It appears my client Raheem Mostert will be pursuing opportunities elsewhere next season. We are grateful for his time spent with the Dolphins, and this transition allows the team to inject some youth while giving him a chance to chase a championship.”
During the recent 2024 season, Mostert recorded the lowest figures in games played (13), rushing yards (278), and attempts (85) since he arrived at the Dolphins prior to the 2022 campaign. Fuller, who joined the Dolphins last year, contributed with 50 tackles (37 solo) and seven passes deflected, along with one fumble recovery, but was limited to just 11 games due to two concussions.
Tight end Durham Smythe, a fourth-round selection by Miami in the 2018 draft, played 112 games over seven seasons, starting 74 of those contests. Throughout his time with the Dolphins, he logged 132 receptions for a total of 1,228 yards and three touchdown catches.
Mostert still had a year remaining on his contract, which he extended in March after a standout 2023 season in which he achieved a career-high 1,012 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. His NFL career began in 2015 with the Dolphins, but he had two kickoff returns against the Jaguars that year before being waived and later signing with the Ravens and Browns.
Before making his way to Miami, Mostert played for four franchises in his initial two seasons but made a significant mark with the 49ers starting in 2016. After spending six seasons with San Francisco, including a Super Bowl trip following the 2019 season, he joined the Dolphins under coach Mike McDaniel, performing exceptionally well in his two seasons there. In 2022, Mostert led the Dolphins in rushing with 891 yards, and in 2023, he became the first Miami player to reach the 1,000-yard rushing mark since Jay Ajayi in 2016, while also being the first player over 30 to achieve that milestone since Adrian Peterson in 2018.
Looking ahead, De’Von Achane has solidified his position as Miami’s primary running back for 2024, accumulating a team-leading 907 yards on 203 carries along with six touchdowns.
