Aaron Rodgers’ time with the New York Jets began with heightened expectations and hopes for a championship but concluded abruptly and disappointingly.

The Jets have officially indicated that they will not be pursuing a return for the veteran quarterback, who is 41 years old. New head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey released a statement on Thursday confirming that they informed Rodgers last week of their decision to seek a new direction at the quarterback position.

Rodgers is expected to be classified as a post-June 1 cut to manage salary cap implications but will be eligible for release after the new NFL league year starts on March 12. Although the four-time MVP has not confirmed his intentions for the upcoming season, he has mentioned several times that he plans to take some time to ponder whether to continue playing or retire before making a final decision.

Despite the uncertainty ahead, one fact stands out: if Rodgers aims to return for the next NFL season, it will not be with the Jets. Nonetheless, there are several teams in need of a quarterback that could potentially be interested in him.

One possibility is the Tennessee Titans. Holding the top overall pick in the April draft, they might look to select a quarterback like Shedeur Sanders from Colorado or Cam Ward from Miami. However, bringing in Rodgers could help them focus on other areas during the draft. Given the presence of new general manager Mike Borgonzi and a young head coach in Brian Callahan, the Titans must consider whether investing in an aging quarterback fits their likely rebuilding process.

The Cleveland Browns could also be in the mix. With Deshaun Watson’s future uncertain following a second Achilles tendon injury, the Browns have the second overall draft pick and could choose from either Sanders or Ward. Rodgers could serve as a stabilizing presence and allow a rookie quarterback time to develop.

The New York Giants are another team in a precarious situation. Daniel Jones has been released, leaving Tommy DeVito as the only quarterback under contract. With the third overall pick, the Giants need a solid plan to revitalize their roster, and adding Rodgers would be a bold move to regain control of their trajectory at MetLife Stadium—where he is already familiar.

In Las Vegas, the Raiders could consider bringing in Rodgers. Despite Davante Adams’ departure, a new leadership structure under head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek suggests that change is in the air. The Raiders could explore a bridge scenario with Rodgers before mapping out their long-term strategy, especially given their sixth overall pick.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made playoff appearances in recent years but have struggled to advance. Owner Art Rooney II has indicated that it’s unlikely both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will return and might prefer one over the other. The addition of Rodgers could provide a significant boost for a team that is poised to compete for a postseason victory.

The San Francisco 49ers could also be an intriguing option for Rodgers. A lifelong fan of the franchise, he might find a second chance to fulfill a childhood dream with a team that previously overlooked him in the draft. Despite the 49ers missing the playoffs this season following a Super Bowl appearance, they remain a strong contender for a successful run if they acquire a player of Rodgers’ caliber.

Lastly, the Minnesota Vikings might be in play as well, particularly if they wish to emulate the path of Brett Favre. Although they have quarterback Sam Darnold who may be tagged, the offensive potential with weapons like Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson could create an appealing scenario for Rodgers.

The New Orleans Saints under new head coach Kellen Moore have a lot to contemplate regarding their quarterback situation. While Moore praised Derek Carr, his future in New Orleans appears uncertain, sparking speculation that the team could opt for a change at the position, with Rodgers as a possible replacement.

Each of these teams has unique circumstances that could make them a potential fit for Rodgers as he assesses his future in the NFL.
