In Adelaide, Australia, Patrick Reed, an American golfer, celebrated a memorable moment during the opening round of the LIV Golf tournament held at The Grange by scoring a hole-in-one. Reed achieved this remarkable feat on the par-3 12th hole, famously known as the “Party Hole,” just a mere 15 minutes after the tournament commenced. Notably, this was only the sixth shot taken at the hole that day.
The 34-year-old golfer, who clinched the Masters title in 2018, received an enthusiastic response from the crowd as they showered him with beverages, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere at the event. The Adelaide tournament is recognized for attracting large crowds, with estimates suggesting that around 100,000 spectators would attend, making it one of the most popular events on the LIV Tour.
This hole-in-one marked only the second occurrence at this particular hole in the four years of LIV Golf’s presence in Adelaide, with the first being Chase Koepka’s ace in 2023. However, Reed’s hole-in-one was one of the few standout moments in his performance that day. He ended the round with a score of 1-over 73, which included two birdies and five bogeys, placing him seven strokes behind the first-round leader Sam Horsfield, who remarkably finished the round without a single bogey, scoring a 66.
Reflecting on his overall performance, Reed remarked, “Aside from that one hole, it was ugly.” He shared that the adrenaline rush following the hole-in-one affected his focus, explaining, “The crazy thing was the adrenaline afterwards. I was shaking going back to the tee and just couldn’t kind of calm down and settle into the round after that point.”
