STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Monmouth University secured a 79-69 victory over Stony Brook on Thursday evening, with Cornelius Robinson Jr. leading the charge by contributing 15 points.
Robinson demonstrated efficiency, completing 5 of 8 shot attempts from the field and sinking 5 of 6 attempts from the charity stripe. Fellow teammate Andrew Ball added 14 points to the scoreboard, shooting an impressive 6 of 8 overall, which included 2 of 3 from three-point territory, while also grabbing six rebounds. Jack Collins also played a key role in the win, scoring 13 points with a 5 of 9 shooting performance, including 3 for 6 from beyond the arc.
On the other side, CJ Luster II emerged as Stony Brook’s standout player, netting 28 points along with two steals. Both Andre Snoddy and Collin O’Connor each contributed 14 points as well.
Heading into halftime, Monmouth held a strong lead, finishing the first 20 minutes of play ahead 42-31, with Collins leading his team with eight points during that period. The Hawks continued to build their momentum in the second half, starting with an 11-3 scoring burst that extended their lead to 59-50 with just over ten minutes left in the game. Madison Durr also made a significant impact, scoring 10 points in the second half.
Both teams are set to face off again on Saturday, with Monmouth traveling to Towson and Stony Brook heading to Northeastern for their next contests.
